Importing formatted text

Is there a way to import Object Text from Word or Excel where certain words are formatted(bold/italics/etc.) into existing objects and maintain the formatting without creating new objects? I need to import several hundred objects into a given module and maintain the Object ID. When saving s file to .csv or .tsv for spreadsheet import, the formatting is lost.

Similarly, the formatting of certain words in any Text Attribute needs to be maintained.

Manual re-formatting after import is not desirable because of the large number of documents I will be importing.
